This is an excerpt from my book “Pleasurable Consequences.”
One night, Alex agreed to meet Joyce after he got off from work at a local restaurant in Stafford, Virginia. He pulled into the parking lot at approximately 10:40 pm. Before going into the restaurant, he looked around to see if he knew anyone that was there. Then, after glancing up at the full moon, he quickly went inside the restaurant and saw her sitting at a table near the rear exit.
Once he got to the table, he noticed that she had a depressed look on her face.
He touched her hand and asked her, “What’s wrong, baby?”
She stared at him with tears forming in her eyes. “I got some bad news today. I don’t know if I should tell you or not.”
“What is it? You can tell me. Did you get fired from your job or something?”
She chuckled and said, “I didn’t get fired, but I don’t know how long I will be working there.”
“Why do you say that? Just tell me what’s going on.”
“I’m sorry,” she said, her tears now running down her face. “I never meant for this to happen.”
“Is it another man?” he asked. As much as he loved being with her, he would not lose any sleep if that was the case. A couple of weeks after meeting Joyce, he felt like he was falling in love with her. Usually, when he is cheating on his wife with another woman, he made it a habit of being distant from the woman he was cheating with after the second time they had sex. If a woman knew about his marriage and accepted it, he would continue to have sex with her whenever he has the opportunity but never frequently. With her, he noticed they acted like a couple. If it was another man she was referring to, then maybe he’ll have the courage to finally stop seeing her.
“No, it’s not another man. You’re the only man that I want to be with,” Joyce said.
He swallowed some saliva that accumulated in his mouth. “Joyce, I got-”
“No Alex, I got to tell you this. I went to the doctor today…and he said that I was three weeks pregnant.”
